Friendship is important to us because we human beings are social creatures who thrive on social interaction. Being social doesn’t have anything to do with our level of extroversion or introversion. Everyone needs someone with whom to chat, break bread, gain guidance and support, or to have a good laugh. One of the reasons that we teach children social skills is to help them cultivate friendships that bring them joy and support. Our friends are special to us and it is important to nurture our relationships to ensure that they stay healthy. Without good social skills children and teens run the risk of damaging friendships that are meaningful to them. The following infographic shows those qualities we most value in our friends.
